Icon Writing
Sacred Images
Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2009
Icon writing is an ancient painting technique in which the process and the finished work inspire prayerful meditation.
To allow for individual instruction, this workshop is limited to 20 participants. Beginners and experienced iconographers alike will find this course rewarding.
This six-day retreat includes the Eucharist, Gregorian chant, praying with icons, readings and silence, as well as lively group conversation, free time and social hours.
John the Baptist
Christ Pantocrator
The Virgin Mary
Participants will recreate an icon of one of the three central figures of the Deesis: Christ Pantocrator, John the Baptist or the Virgin Mary.
Icons will be written in Jo Sonia acrylic paint and gold leaf, a medium that most closely resembles the traditional egg tempera. Instructor Teresa Harrison will introduce ancient Greek and Russian styles.
