A Week of Lifelong Learning
Making Disciples: Hearing the Word
June 15 - 20, 2008

With a revamped format that pleased participants in 2007, Kanuga's Christian Formation Conference returns June 15-20 with two tracks of study. A significant new option is mentor training and teacher certification/recertification.
Conferees can attend one or both segments but the greatest benefit, and a rate incentive, comes by participating for the entire week.
Focusing on the theme Making Disciples: Hearing the Word, this Week of Lifelong Learning is for all who lead Christian formation/education at church. It also helps parents and grandparents who simply want to nurture their family’s faith.
Keynoter Deirdre Good, professor of New Testament at General Theological Seminary in New York, will address how we read, understand and interpret the Bible. She will give a keynote presentation each weekday except Wednesday, when she preaches a joint Eucharist.
As with all Kanuga summer conferences, you can make this week your mountain vacation. While parents attend sessions, young people participate in their own programs directed by our carefully selected staff in a safe and fun Christian environment. Spouses can fish, hike, play tennis or nearby golf, relax on the porch or by the lake and visit area attractions. The whole family can spend time together in the afternoons and evenings.
Mentor training, teacher certification offered
New this year is the option for mentor training or teacher certification in leading four local programs. Click on the program name for details and requirements.
By attending the entire June 15-20 Week of Lifelong Learning, you can earn certification training related to your ministry — adults or children/youth — and attend the many other workshops specifically designed for your ministry.
Anyone seeking mentor training or certification must register by Friday, May 30. Download the conference schedule PDF for additional details.
Workshops
Morning and afternoon, three workshop periods will be offered daily on Monday and Wednesday, two on Tuesday and Thursday and one on Friday. Four kinds of programs will be offered at every 90-minute workshop period:
- 101 options, designed for newcomers to Christian Formation but open to all
- 201 options, designed for those with Christian Formation leadership experience but open to all
- Theme-related, in response to the conference’s underlying theme of how we read, understand and interpret the Bible
- Soul nourishment, spiritual practices that help us tend our own souls, such as guided reflection, opportunities to meet with spiritual directors and scheduled massages
Workshop options for Adult Faith Formation, June 15-18
Workshop options for Children & Youth Faith Formation, June 17-20

Good holds a doctorate of theology from the Harvard University Divinity School and has taught at General Seminary since 1987. Prior to that, she chaired the department of Bible and religion at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.
