Meet Brad Thompson
Camp Kanuga's Director
Brad Thompson
Director Brad Thompson is living proof that leadership blossoms at Camp Kanuga. The camp has been part of his life, and especially his personal growth, for the past 16 years. Brad is entering his fourth year as camp director.
During his years as a camper he was named Outstanding Camper by the staff. He went on to become a Trailblazer, then was chosen the Lucia Fox Outstanding Male Counselor, the highest honor a counselor can achieve. He has held a number of senior leadership positions including head male counselor and program director.
Brad holds a management degree from Clemson University. He is a professional member of the American Camp Association and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder (backcountry emergency care).
Experience and training give Brad a clear vision for Camp Kanuga's future:
- A passion of mine is staff training, and among the tools we use are American Camp Association published resources and seminars to stay current with all aspects of camping, child development, and leadership.
- Our small size makes us a close community, one where young people thrive and are ready for new experiences.
- Our staff and campers understand the traditions of Camp Kanuga—they mean a lot to our community. Even as we improve the program and facilities, I will always protect those traditions.
- Relationships are treasured here. People remember their cabinmates and counselors for years after their last session. Many stay in touch with each other and with us in what becomes a life-long link. It is remarkable to see Camp Kanuga's impact on their lives and we will continue to make this a place where that can begin.
